Ethiopia

Young Africa Works in Ethiopia focuses on sectors that offer a strong potential for the creation of work for youth.

Our Goal: Enable 10 million young people to access dignified and fulfilling work by 2030.

Context: The need to create employment in Ethiopia is high, and the potential to have an impact is significant. The recent commitment by the government to improve the policy and regulatory environment to encourage the development of the private sector and attract foreign investment will be a leading factor in driving transformative change.

Our Approach: Designed in partnership with the government, the private sector, academic institutions, and young people, the Foundation will work with the newly created Jobs Creation Commission to spur economic growth. It builds upon the momentum of the governments recent efforts while also finding creative ways to strengthen relevant government institutions.  The Foundation has made an initial USD 300 million five-year commitment to implement this strategy in Ethiopia.

Priority Sectors: Agriculture, manufacturing, tourism and digital technology
