Target Impact
In partnership with T-TEL, The Mastercard Foundation has committed USD 81 million to the Leaders in Teaching (LIT) program in Ghana, in partnership with nine sub-implementing partners. The program is also collaborating with tertiary education institutions, NGOs, the private sector, and key national government agencies to improve teaching quality across all 731 secondary schools in Ghana. This program seeks to equip approximately 2.9 million secondary education graduates with essential 21st-century skills and competencies needed for lifelong learning, employability, and adult life.

Partnership Focus
Improve the leadership and management of Senior High School (SHS), Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS), and Technical Institutions (Tis) so that School Boards and Leadership teams oversee effective learning-focused institutions with School Improvement Plans. (LEAD Pillar.)
Enhance the quality and relevance of pre-service and in-service teacher education, so that all teachers in SHS, SHTS, and TIs are delivering the new secondary education curriculum and adhering to the National Teachers’ Standards. (TRAIN Pillar.)
Attract, recruit, and retain quality teachers for secondary education institutions with a particular focus on the recruitment of women and address staffing issues in rural areas. (RECRUIT Pillar.)
Improve teacher motivation and elevate the status and respect for the profession. (MOTIVATE Pillar.)
