The Journey So Far And What’s Next: Ndey Yassin Camara
Mastercard Foundation Scholars Share Their Story
Ndey Yassin Camara (Gambia)
McGill University, Physiology
Ndey Yassin Camara’s experience at McGill University taught her that nothing is impossible to achieve. With hard work, discipline and perseverance, she was able to pull through some of the most challenging academic classes. As a student, Ndey Yassin Camara served as an undergraduate course assistant and was part of the team that made it to the semi-finals of the McGill University Dobson Cup Startup Competition.
“My advice to fellow Mastercard Foundation Scholars would be to make you your only competition. I know university can be very hard and sometimes we find ourselves comparing our performance with friends, colleagues or other Scholars. But always make it a point to focus on yourself and your journey. Everyone’s journey is different, and no two people or circumstances are the same,” she says.
“We have different strengths and capabilities, so focus on yours and work on improving yourself. Each end of the semester, compare your performance and efforts to the previous one, gauge yourself and evaluate what you need to work on. This is how you’ll grow into a better version and ultimately, the best version of you,” Ndey added.
With the growth mindset and positive attitude, she nurtured throughout her study, Ndey is of the firm belief that she has what it takes to excel at any challenge in the workforce.
Post-graduation, she plans to take a gap year, get work experience and acquire new skillsets. After that, she hopes to go back to school: most likely, medical school.
