Sconaid McGeachin brings 30 years of experience in global communications and has worked in many industries from technology to consumer goods. She began her career with an agency in the UK. Her entrepreneurial drive landed her international assignments to open offices and build businesses in then-emerging markets of Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, the Middle East, and Africa. In 2008, she became the Chief Operating Officer for Hill and Knowlton in the Middle East and Turkey. Four years later she was appointed as the CEO of the agency, for both regions in addition to Africa and India. In Africa, she led a team who expanded the agency’s operations in East Africa and Nigeria.
She was appointed as the Senior Vice President of Communications for EXPO 2020. This significant event received over 24 million visitors. Sconaid led strategic planning and was the primary spokesperson, cultivating relationships with international media and key stakeholders. Notably, her efforts underscored a commitment to African representation, with every African nation invited to participate, and often provided with support. She worked with corporate partners and the UN, enabling the EXPO to showcase inclusivity, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), education, youth, and children’s welfare.
Most recently, Sconaid served as the Director of Communications at COP28, the UN Climate Change Conference (or Conference of the Parties to the UNCCC) in Dubai in 2023. She led external and policy communications for the President. Sconaid collaborated with diverse stakeholders and inter-governmental teams, contributing to the signing of the historic climate agreement to speed up the transition from fossil fuels to renewables.
