What does Mino Bimaadiziwin (living a good life) mean to you?
Through the EleV initiative, the Mastercard Foundation is deepening our work alongside Indigenous youth and communities. We look to uplift and amplify the voices of Indigenous young people as agents of change in their communities and in Canada as a whole. The EleV Initiative is guided by the concept of Mino Bimaadiziwin, which in the Anishinaabe language, Anishinaabemowin, means “living a good life.”
Art is a powerful medium that can convey much more than words alone. Culture, Connection, and Resurgence aims to celebrate the aspirations, talent, and vision of young Indigenous artists. We invited young Indigenous artists from across Canada to respond to a question: “What does Mino Bimaadiziwin mean to you?” The Artbook features 24 Indigenous artists and their responses. Together, the art and statements shared in this book act as a call to action and urge us to recognize the importance of reclaiming Indigenous wisdom and, along with Indigenous youth themselves, let that wisdom guide a new era of transformation.
