    Project:Scholars Program Transitions – Building the Scholars Brand into the Future

    Grant Amount: $0.8 million

    Country: South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana

    Develop and implement a campaign to raise awareness of Mastercard Foundation Scholars and the unique contributions they can make as employees. This campaign will increase the profile of the Scholars’ brand and will facilitate transition to the workplace for 1,400 tertiary Scholars from South Africa, Ghana, Uganda, and Kenya.

    Enable 102 undergraduate-level students and 245 graduate-level students from South Africa and other African countries who are academically talented, yet economically disadvantaged, to complete a university education.

    Project: Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program

    Grant Amount: $22.6 million

    Country: Pan-African

    Support 67 academically talented, yet financially disadvantaged students from Africa in completing a university education, while fostering their leadership skills and their capacity to give back to their communities.

    Project: Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program

    Grant Amount: $8.9 million

    Country: Ethiopia

    Support 450 (290 undergraduate and 160 master’s-level) academically talented, yet financially disadvantaged students living with disabilities in completing a university education, while fostering their leadership skills and capacity to give back to their communities.

    Pilot new models of Scholar support offerings by integrating accessibility tools (e.g., wheelchairs), learning materials (e.g., braille books), and rehabilitation lab access into each Scholar’s package.

  • University of Edinburgh

    Project: Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program

    Grant Amount: $24.4 million

    Country: Pan-African

    Enable 140 bright, yet economically disadvantaged Scholars (80 undergraduate and 60 master’s-level) from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Cameroon, Sierra Leone, and other under-represented countries within the Scholars Program to complete a university education.

    Introduce the first online master’s program to 100 students in the Scholars Program.

    Enable 60 undergraduate-level students and 240 graduate-level students from South Africa and other African countries who are academically talented, yet economically disadvantaged, to complete their university education.

    Country: Pan-African

    Support 113 academically talented, yet financially disadvantaged students from Africa in completing a university education, while fostering their leadership skills and their capacity to give back to their communities.

    Project: Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program

    Grant Amount: $6.2 million

    Country: Benin

    Enable 200 academically talented, yet economically disadvantaged students from Benin to complete an undergraduate education.

    Foster Scholars’ leadership skills and their capacity to give back to their communities.

    Support 100 senior-level students of the University of Abomey-Calavi to complete entrepreneurship training through its Business Incubator Program (BIP), which includes ongoing support to help students launch their enterprise.
