Mastercard Foundation Associates | Mastercard Foundation

The Mastercard Foundation Associates Program connects employers across Africa with talented young professionals through structured 12-month paid work placements.

Employers are at the heart of the Associates Program. By hosting Associates, organizations contribute directly to building a stronger, more inclusive workforce across Africa.

Employers provide real workplace experience, mentorship, and professional development opportunities that enable Associates to accelerate their careers and transition successfully into the workforce.

Our Approach

The Associates Program is delivered through the Mastercard Foundation’s Transitions Platform, which supports young people as they move from education and leadership development into sustainable livelihoods.

Through partnerships with employers, implementing partners, and ecosystem actors, the program strengthens pathways to meaningful work and contributes to building stronger economies and communities.

How Employers are Selected

Employers are identified and assessed by Regional Placement Partners and must undergo a verification process to confirm their ability to provide a quality work experience.

This includes a review of the organizational structure, compliance documentation, and capacity to support Associates effectively.

- Create an environment where Associates can learn, grow, and contribute

- Consider opportunities for retention beyond the program where possible

Associates are also supported by Talent Corps, a network of Mastercard Foundation Alumni who provide career guidance, address workplace challenges, and support the Associates’ professional development throughout their internship placement.

Our Commitment to Inclusion

The Mastercard Foundation Associates Program prioritizes participation from young women, persons with disabilities, and refugees and internally displaced persons.
