The Financial Inclusion for Smallholder Farmers in Africa Project (FISFAP) was a five-year project implemented by AGRA and funded by the Mastercard Foundation between 2015 and 2020. The project aimed to (i) improve the productivity and income of 728,000 smallholder farmers in Ghana, Kenya, and Tanzania using agribusinesses as a method of financing, (ii) support agricultural market information systems and payment innovations to serve farmers with a range of financial and non-financial services, and (iii) share financial inclusion models and approaches through research, documentation, and dissemination.
FISFAP aims to foster partnerships between financial service providers, value chain actors and mobile network operators to develop appropriate and affordable (digital) products and services for smallholder farmers.
As an African-led institution that invests in building national capacities for inclusive transformation of food and agricultural systems, AGRA brings a strong pool of technical expertise, convening power (bringing public and private stakeholders together), proven models transferrable to local partners, and financial capability to manage implementation.
