Period

June 2024 - June 2027

Sudan currently faces the largest internal displacement crisis in the world, the most significant child displacement crisis, with 3 million children displaced inside and outside the country and is one of the largest protection crises in the world today.

The Sudan regional refugee response plan for 2023 was only 43% funded, and the 2024 appeal is currently just 7% funded, underscoring the urgent need for additional support to address the displacement crisis and provide essential services, including education and livelihood interventions.

In Partnership With

UNHCR helps to save lives and build better futures for the millions of people forced to flee their homes. The UN Refugee Agency works to ensure that everybody has the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge, having fled violence, persecution or war at home.

Target Impact

Accelerate access to secondary education for 600,000 and higher education for 1,000 RDP youth especially for girls and young women (70%). Deliver livelihood and economic inclusion programs for 22,000 RDP youth especially for girls and young women (70%).

Partnership Focus

To address the pressing needs of RDPs in Sudan, the Mastercard Foundation will support UNHCR's emergency response across countries affected by the Sudan crisis, in alignment with the 2024 Sudan refugee response plan and Humanitarian Response Plan.

The Foundation will provide critical funding to bridge gaps ensuring that urgent needs are swiftly met, particularly in education, livelihoods, and economic inclusion, which align with the Foundation’s charitable objectives and RDP strategy. This support will enable UNHCR to maintain education access for RDP youth, mitigate learning disruptions, and support livelihood programs that help RDP gain skills and access economic opportunities, thereby promoting resilience and self-reliance among displaced populations.
