Indigenous Youth Roots

Indigenous Youth Roots (IYR) is a national Indigenous youth-led organization that works with communities across Canada to strengthen and amplify the voices of Indigenous youth. Grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing and being, IYR offers programs, grants, learning opportunities, and advocacy that support youth leadership, reconciliation, and community-led change.

Through the EleV Program, the Mastercard Foundation partnered with IYR to expand programs that will help Indigenous youth build skills, connect with one another, and lead change in their communities. Responding to learnings and impact to date, this 5-yearpartnership will support Indigenous youth-led organizations and groups, strengthen IYR’s leadership and capacity-building programs, and create more virtual and in-person opportunities for youth to learn from and alongside each other.

Programs include the Creation Granting Program, Grantee Mentorship Program, Research Mentorship and Grants Program, Indigenous Youth Policy School, Northern Indigenous Policy School, regional and national youth gatherings, and ongoing capacity- and relationship-building activities.
