Yukon University alongside the Gwich’in, Hän, Tlingit, Tagish, Tutchone and Dene-Kaska
Yukon University (formerly Yukon College), alongside the Gwich’in, Hän, Tlingit, Tagish Tutchone and Dene-Kaska, is a partner in the EleV Program.
In 2017, building on the financial contributions from government, the private sector, and Indigenous communities, the Mastercard Foundation entered into a five-year commitment with Yukon University to enhance the holistic support for Indigenous learners. In 2022, we expanded our partnership and Yukon University, in collaboration with Yukon First Nations partners, including the Assembly of First Nations Yukon Region, the Yukon First Nations Education Directorate, and the Training Policy Committee, will undertake a range of initiatives focused on systems change.
This partnership includes:
- Investing resources to lay the groundwork for lasting and sustainable relationships throughout the Yukon First Nations Education Ecosystem.
- Delivering innovative education models developed with Yukon First Nations to ensure they reflect Indigenous cultures and worldviews.
- Ensuring that Indigenous knowledges and ways of knowing, doing, and being are reflected in Yukon University educational delivery, policies, and practices.
- Enhancing pathways for Indigenous young people to study and work in areas that are important to them and their communities.
