In Partnership With
G for Girls (GGI) is a Community-Based Organisation (CBO) operating in Vanga Ward, Lunga Lunga sub-county of Kwale Kenya, at the Kenya-Tanzania border. Its journey began with a simple yet profound belief: every girl deserves the chance to learn, grow and succeed. Recognizing the barriers girls in the community face in accessing education, GGI set out to make a difference one girl at a time. From humble beginnings, the initiative has grown into a robust network of supporters, volunteers, and advocates, all united in the mission to transform lives through education.
G for Girls Initiative is a team-led effort by grassroots female leaders dedicated to accelerating girls’ education in Kwale County.
Target Impact
The program seeks to help girls remain in primary school and successfully transition to secondary school. It also seeks to improve young people’s participation in Kwale County policy initiatives focused on inclusive, equitable, and high-quality basic education for all children, especially girls.
Partnership Focus
The work the program is doing seeks to:
• Ensure girls remain in school and also attend secondary school.
• Campaigning to ensure the community sees the value of education and also to eliminate cultural practices that cause harm to young people, especially young women and girls.
• Have young people participate in developing policies for Kwale County that address the needs of young people, listen to their input, and promote good basic education for all children, especially girls.
• Joining forces with other community and administrative representatives to champion the protection of girls and their empowerment.
• Conducting activities like mentorship sessions for girls, literacy sessions, menstrual health, and community health sessions.
• Secondary school scholarships for girls.
• The program is open to young women and men (aged 18-35 years) with a passion for success in Kwale County.
