I have always struggled to be self-reliant, but most of the opportunities had their costs. When Muni University announced the training in shoe making among others under the Refugee and Host Community Youth Empowerment and Transformation Initiative, I saw a good chance to use my hands to earn a living with minimum challenges. This skill has helped me to not only earn extra income, but also bond with my neighborhood. I sometimes repair sandals for them for free and that has made me quite popular around. I have friends in the market with whom we work. I do not have a specific place to sell my shoes yet, so I hawk them around. On a good day I sell up to 5 pairs, which can earn me a profit of about 20,000=. On average I earn about 70,000= a week. I use this money to support myself and my two daughters. I’m also saving to buy some tools and set up a stall in the market to sell my shoes.
