Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST)
Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) traces its origins to the establishment of the Kumasi College of Technology in 1951, officially opened in January 1952 (development and reorganization through the 1950s). It was transformed into a full-fledged university and renamed KNUST by an Act of Parliament on 22 August 1961, in honour of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Since then, KNUST has evolved from its technical and vocational roots into a comprehensive university with diverse academic programmes, research institutes, and a strong focus on science, technology, engineering, innovation, research, and entrepreneurship. The University has played a significant role in Ghana’s human-capital development, producing professionals across engineering, science, health, architecture, agriculture, business, and other fields.
KNUST combines quality teaching and learning, relevant research, entrepreneurship, innovation, and community engagement to advance knowledge and improve quality of life. With its main campus in Kumasi and the KNUST Obuasi Campus, the University continues to expand its academic and developmental impact. KNUST’s vision is to be an eminent global university that engineers a sustainable future through science, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. Its core values include Leadership in Innovation and Technology, Excellence as a Culture, Diversity and Equal Opportunity, Integrity and Stewardship of Resources, and Agility and Adaptability. Through these commitments, KNUST continues to contribute to Ghana’s development and Africa’s advancement.
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at KNUST provides access to quality university education to academically talented young people in Africa and empower them to give back to society.
