Samuel Yalew Adela

Since joining the Mastercard Foundation in 2015, Samuel has led the development of strategic interventions and programs that create access to quality and relevant secondary education for African young people under the Foundation’s Innovation in Secondary Education Initiative.  

Samuel has played a key role in the development of the Foundation’s Young Africa Works strategy as well as its roll-out in Uganda.  Samuel has over 20 years of experience in education, child rights advocacy, and public health with public, private and non-governmental organizations.  

Samuel has served in the capacity of director, deputy director, technical advisor, program manager, and program officer in various large and multi-year projects in Ethiopia, Namibia, Canada, and Uganda.

Samuel is a qualified teacher with experience in teaching at secondary and tertiary levels. Samuel holds a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Arts from leading higher learning institutions in Ethiopia.
